Rimmel Sweetie Crush Collection - Swatches & Review

Image
Rimmel's Sweetie Crush Collection is made up of 5 candy coloured, slightly textured, shimmery wonders. I like how Rimmel has joined in the themed bottle cap bandwagon, however I feel that there's room for improvement. As cute as the design is the stickers on my bottles were a little wonky (anyone else hate that sort of thing?) and they didn't completely circle the lid. I really feel that Rimmel should look to Models Own and Barry M on how to do lids properly.   Sherbet Sweetheart is a gorgeous canary yellow with silver shimmer. This polish has large glitters in it which I personally love (see macro). However none of the other polishes in the collection do, so I have questions over why they were included in this one? Strange move Rimmel. Application was easy considering the thick formula and the drying time was great. I used 2 coats, no topcoat for the photos below. Candyfloss Cutie is a perfect raspberry pink with silver shimmer. Again application was easy and drying time g...

Swatch Sticks - What To Do & Where To Buy

Image
As a massive organiser of EVERYTHING the discovery of swatch sticks was huge to me. I love documenting my polish collection via a  Google Docs Spreadsheet so that all my friends and family can see which polishes I have, but also so I can keep track of numbers etc. However I am also a very visual person and this is where I fell instantly in love with the humble swatch stick. Being able to see the actual polish and it's name on a stick is ingenious. I use them to figure out combinations without wasting any polish, friends and family can see clearly what the different tones of a nuance are like in real life and I get to look at rainbows of colour while my Ikea Helmers keep my polishes locked away from the sunlight. Yes, they are brilliant! What To Do: I don't want you thinking I'm being patronising so if you know how to use a swatch stick, move on. I only include this part because for a long time I was swatching my polishes incorrectly. I have never gone back to re-do the wr...

Daisy Nail Art using Models Own Pink Veneer

Image
So with the first day of spring just passed and the sun shining today I felt like doing some daisy nail art. I have always loved daisies but it's been a flower I've never painted on my nails. I love flowers on nails and will definitely be including daisies in my designs a lot more, they're just so delicate and pretty. I used Models Own Pink Veneer from their Hypergel Collection as my base, it's a gorgeous powdery baby pink and just screams spring time. I then hand painted the daisies using a very thin nail brush and some craft paints.   A matte top coat finished off the design but as you can see from the macro below I was a little hasty in my top coat application and the paint has smudged slightly. Ooops!     To buy Pink Veneer for yourself log on to the Models Own website and grab it as part of their 6 for £20 offer or for £5 on its own. You can also get Models Own polishes from Boots and Superdrug . If you've never attempted nail art I suggest you just give it a...

Barry M Aquarium Collection Swatches & Review

Image
Barry M have just released their 3rd new collection for 2014 & we're only in March. The Aquarium collection is a stunning mix of 4 duochrome & 2 glitter nail paints which totally complement each other.     Although this 6 piece collection looks beautiful altogether it can easily be split in half with 3 'Blues' & 3 'Pinks' forming the 2 mini collections. Starting with the Blues, you have Mermaid, Pacific & Arabian.     Pacific is a gorgeous oily aqua teal to blue duochrome. I used 2 coats over Barry M Black for the photo below.      Arabian is a golden khaki to green duochrome which reminds me of beetle wings. I used 2 coats over Barry M Black for the photo below.       Mermaid is a glitter wonder. As you can see from the macro shot below it contains a mix of green, blue & gold large flake glitters. I have used 1 generous coat over Pacific & Arabian for the photos below. The glitter payoff for this was amazing!       I...

Models Own Speckled Eggs Swatches & Review

Image
Models Own new collection for Spring 2014 called speckled eggs is amazing. These were released on the 12th March on their website and I grabbed the whole set in the 6 for £20 deal, the other polish I picked ... well let’s just say it’s a duochrome beauty which I plan on swatching another day. All these polishes are pastel cremes which contain matte black glitters in various sizes to resemble speckled eggs when on the nails .... hence the name - *obviously!   First up is Goose. This yellow polish ends up looking a little dirty because of the black glitters. I needed 3 coats for the photo below, no topcoat but the application was good for this and the polish dried quickly.     Magpie is a beautiful Tiffany mint green polish which is gorgeous. I only needed 2 coats for the photo below, no topcoat and like Goose the application and drying time was good.        Duck is a gorgeous bluebell blue colour which looks amazing on. I used 2 coats for the photo below, no topcoat. Like the others app...
